Bugs/Feature requests

text in <description> tags not displayed

For the news items Newsfox doesn't show the text, that is enclosed in the <description> Tags. It's bad because some information is not visible to the viewer.

example feeds:

http://ticker.gulli.com/rss/

multi-threaded refreshing of feeds?

is it possible to check more than one feed at a time?

NF slow to load feeds

with over 100 feeds NF becomes quite slow to load them.  i know an sqlite DB was discussed before and evidently it was found that a DB was even slower than flat files.  still, if any optimizations can be made to the xml files or the way they are loaded, it would be a huge plus i think.

display of "feeds" directory redundant and troublesome

is it really necessary to display all of the feeds twice?  i've never found a use for this and it causes problems when deleting feeds.  if i delete a feed from a directory i created, it may or may not be deleted from the "feeds" folder.  and thanks to the NF dev's for a very nice feed reader!

Feature Request: Search Bar

Hi,

this really is the greatest of all RSS readers! It has just the right set of features for me; I particularly dig the display of a feed's categories in a tree.

I am missing one tiny feature, thoug, and that is a search bar like in Thunderbird or Firefox. The reason is that I am subscribed to many feeds which report similar stories. So very often while reading an article I wonder what the other feeds have written about the same subject or person. But I have no easy way to find all similar articles.

If I had the possibility to just press [Ctrl]+[k] as in Thunderbird, enter a search term and see just the matching articles in the Title pane (based on my selection in the Feed pane), this would make my life so much easier!

Does that sound reasonable? I immagine that this feature would be fairly easy to implement - and besides, there is still plenty of unused space in the Main toolbar.;-)

The question has already been discussed in http://newsfox.mozdev.org/drupal/content/search-option and I am well aware of the possibility to create a search group. But this is just too cumbersome in my case. I just want to quickly read all articles with "xyz" in their title, then delete all of them (or all but one), while I will probably never search for "xyz" again.

What do you think?

Feature Request:: Toggle (De)Select All Articles

In the bar above list of articles (where feed name and some feed action icons exist), it'd be nice to have another icon which selects or deselects ALL articles. It makes deleting all articles simple (I usually read one-handed and would like a way to select all via just the mouse.)

Thanks.

OPML import of folder hierarchies doesn't seem to work

When I import an OPML file that contains a hierarchy of folders NewsFox doesn't seem to load it correctly. Basically I get a flattened view of the hierarchy with each folder appearing at the same level as FEEDS, and in the FEEDS folder I get every feed irrespective of whether it is in a folder or not.

Is there a way to impport a hierarchy into NewsFox that works?

Threading issue-Firefox freezes when updating feed with large amount of articles

One of my feeds has over 5000 articles in each update.
When NewsFox is downloading/updating this feed, Firefox becomes totally unresponsive. Control is restored once the feed is done updating.
I haven't looked at the source yet, but it seems to me like this could be caused updating the feeds on the same thread as the UI.
My platform: Windows Vista SP2, Firefox 3.0.13, NewsFox 1.0.5

Auto-refresh Not Working

It does refresh all feeds on startup but it won't Auto-refresh after that.
NewsFox 1.0.5
MacPro
Firefox 3.5.2
Thanks

Search Keywords do not support Chinese characters

If you enter a Chinese keyword, next time it'll be random codes.
Please fix that.(Unicode maybe?)

Article text not shown if display style is "Website"

Hello,
Since a  few days some of my newsfeeds don't work anymore.
For example:
http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/617/f/8093/index.rss
or
http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/746/f/9603/index.rss

If you click on an article and the Style is Website / Website (-JS) nothing happens. No preview is shown and Firefox doesn't seem to load the article website.
In the error log the following error can be found:
Fehler: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x805e000a [nsIDOMLocation.href]"  nsresult: "0x805e000a (<unknown>)"  location: "JS frame :: chrome://newsfox/content/ui.js :: articleSelected :: line 1573"  data: no]

If I switch to to display style "text" it works fine, if I switch to "XHTML" an error is displayed:
XML not well formed...

Is this a problem of the feed provider (feedsportal.com) or Newfox?

Tab closed when canceling feed addition

If I click the rss button in the browsers address bar to add a feed to newsfox, the "Feed Options" window comes up in the Newsfox tab. If I click the "cancel" button the tab where I clicked the rss button is closed. I can't even restore the tab from a closed tabs list because when clicking the rss button the address changes to something with "chrome:...".
BTW: the problem occures if the newsfox tab is already open. I haven't tested otherwise.

font size

I would like to set up different size of font of:
list of RSS
list of articles
and main page

New display options cannot be set Global

When setting Options -> Global -> Display Style, the new styles (-JS, XHTML) are not available. Is this on purpose?

Feed Bug

If the following feed, http://feeds.joomla.org/JoomlaExtensionsUpdated, is displayed as HTML, after an item is displayed in the view pane, it refreshes and reloads the entire tab to the item's page.

I've recreated this on both Firefox 3.0.11 and 3.5 RC2.
