This is a newer version than at at AMO. AMO is requiring us to make some cosmetic changes in the code before approving the new version. The new version is at least as safe to use as 1.0.5.

If you download the xpi file, open it from the File menu.

Release notes

For K-Meleon 1.1 and later: unzip 'newsfox.zip' and place the resulting 'newsfox.jar' file in the 'chrome' directory of the K-Meleon program directory. There is no need for a new 'newsfox.manifest' file.

It is also possible to download one of the Firefox .xpi files, unzip it(it is just a zip file) and use the 'newsfox.jar' file contained inside the chrome folder.

SeaMonkey, eMusic, Flock

Use Firefox releases. Open the .xpi file from the File menu. Installing may require elevated security privileges.
